Terrible news for @afcbournemouth. Tyler Adams out for the start of the season after having back surgery. Felt problem at end of Premier League campaign and got worse during Copa America. Andoni Iraola: "He wanted to play Copa America because it was very important for him, but he…— Simon Stone (@sistoney67) July 20, 2024
Disappointing news. His injury history is getting longer and more sustained. So much of his game is based on his athletic gifts. I’m afraid he might never be the same player.
Its certainly concerning as hell. Its getting to JOB/Claudio territory here. Thank goodness weve had Johnny emerge as a very excellent candidate in the mean time.
It would be irrational for me to view this as a knee jerk: okay, we just need to move on from relying on Adams in our set up, but, I'm kind of, "okay, we just need to move on from relying on him in our set up". I know its irrational. The truth is the guy was healthy for all of '22 and a good chunk of '21. But it's worth noting at this point: October '18: Back injury (misses two weeks) March 31st 2019 through the rest of 2019... Feb '20: Torn Muscle Fiber injury, then covid shut down.... October '20: Another month long injury May '21: Back injury**** May '22: Short Thigh injury March '23-March '24: Leeds Injury into Bournemouth season. Plays for a few weeks in March, shut down again in April. Played in Copa America, shut down afterwards. I look at that, and generally speaking it looks like he was healthy in 2018, healthy for most of '21 and most of '22, and not healthy in '19, part of '20, and largely all of '23 and '24. What do we do with that? For me, he just becomes a part of the pool going forward, and until he has a sustained period of health again like he's only really had once in his career (November '20 through March '23, not coincidentally the one period in his career when he wasn't a consistent auto starter with his clubs (until August '22)) he has to be a guy we need to build without. It's time to really figure out other 6 options, hybrid guys like Tessmann etc, we know what Adams could do, we don't know what he can do, after injuries have essentially wiped out a good 18+ months of his career twice in the past five years. Johnny, Tessmann and friends need to realize this is their chance, and the next coach needs to understand which I think he will, that Adams is just one of many players, and no longer should be a lock anything.
Adams is no longer a lock start, he’s in the top 20. If he’s there cool we appreciate that, but Johnny has earned the right to step inside that track
Agreed, we don't even know if he can recapture his WC form (which went south just in time for the biggest international match of his career after he was run into the ground for the group stage) with catastrophic injuries in '23 and '24. We have to move on w/o him and if he can sustain health in '25-'26 we can talk then, but at this point, '23 and '24 have been largely wiped out, and Johnny had a great debut season in La Liga, and Tessmann had a breakout 20 months with Venezia beginning in November '22 (still bitter the Inter Milan move seems to have collapsed due to perhaps wages?!?!?!) and there are some more options too...we have to come to terms with the fact that Adams couldn't stay healthy in '19, '20, '23, and '24. The only years he was healthy fairly consistently, '21 and '22, he was not a lock starter for Red Bull Leipzig, and so had less wear and tear on his body. 4 of his past 6 years being derailed by injury is not a trend line we can rely on, period.
Young CBs starting the preseason. Fingers crossed. 🇺🇸 Noahkai Banks plays the second half for Augsburg in their preseason friendly today against Young Africans. Augsburg’s 2nd team had their season opener this morning as well, so this could indicate that Banks will be a first team player this season 🇺🇸 https://t.co/vMXdx9fcr8— American Ultras Talk (@ameriultrastalk) July 20, 2024 Joshua Wynder got another start for Benfica B today in their 1-0 victory. That makes 2 clean sheets in 2 starts for him. This is great news for him. FYI, several of these guys were regulars for the team last season#USMNT #USYNT #LouCity https://t.co/YFvnO3pt0r— Zach McCabe (@zjmccabe) July 20, 2024
Good to see Morris get the start for Boro in this preseason friendly. 🇺🇸 Aidan Morris makes his debut as he starts for Middlesbrough in their first preseason friendly against Bolton 🇺🇸 https://t.co/u0S7aQhHLv— American Ultras Talk (@ameriultrastalk) July 20, 2024
The inauguration of a potential contested battle for WC '26 and Copa America '28 (Please!) roster slots? One would hope. The vets need competition, based upon what we saw last month, and the kiddos keep coming. Hopefully this is a better European season than the helter skelter '23-'24 was.

It's even worse than that. He's starting playing not fully recovered time after time, he wasn't mostly healthy in 21-22, he was mostly injured, playing limited minutes and not playing well. He is playing healthy about 25-30% of time.
Cade Cowell with another goal, this one a golazo. He is a constant threat on his side of the field. He looks great. He is maturing and looks like a national team player for sure. He should be called in for the upcoming friendlies.
Dude had 1 goal his previous 18 games with them. I have no idea what Cade Cowell is gonna be. He shows flashes of greatness/athleticism all the time and then vanishes for multiple months creating nothing to speak of. Its nice he's got 2 goals in 3 games to start this season, but he was completely shut down in the previous 18 game sample size. The only positive take away was that he only played 750ish minutes out of a possible 1,620, so at least there's hope considering in that season he got the equivalent of only 8ish starts. FTR, I would love, love, love it, if Cowell hit a grand slam going forward. Although it seems like he's been playing forever (debuted with my local defunct Reno team back in '19?), he's only 20 years old, just 20. He could still grow a ton, and I hope he does.
Cade Cowell has been on fire to start this Liga MX season 🔥 Another one 🥶 #Chivas pic.twitter.com/VzSTH719Qi— herculez gomez (@herculezg) July 21, 2024
He attacks defenders like nobody else in our pool not named Pulisic. He is explosive and quicker with the ball on his foot than people think. His prior issues have been with clinical finishing, and as we can clearly see, his finishing is improving. This looks to be his break-out season with Chivas. I’d like to see what he looks like playing opposite Pulisic.
Yeah, that's how I feel. Going back years now, he'll have these stretches of a few games where he looks unstoppable and then he'll disappear for a dozen games (or more). He really needs a whole season of consistently looking good in Liga MX before I'm buying stock. But like you said, he's totally still young enough where things might click for him, and he does get there.
CADE COWELL BANGER. 3rd straight game with a goal for Chivas. Paging Cherundolo/Vieira/Southgate/whoever. 😉🇺🇸🇲🇽 pic.twitter.com/UX1rq12IQQ— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) July 21, 2024
